اِنَّ هٰذَٓا اَخ۪ي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ اَكْفِلْن۪يهَا وَعَزَّن۪ي فِي الْخِطَابِ
Translation
Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."

Müellifin gelenek dışı okuması: (1) 'na'cetun vâhidetun'da sayı sayılandan sonra geldiği için sayı değil sıfattır, yani "bir tek koyunum var" değil "benzersiz/eşsiz bir koyun türüm var" demektir; (2) 'ekfilnîhâ' "koyunlarını bana ver" değil "beni ona bakıcı/kefil yap" anlamındadır; (3) 've azzenî fi'l-hitâb' "sadece sözde bana üstün oldu" demektir. Davacının elindeki türün sadece müennes olması nedeniyle her halükârda melezleşeceğini de ekler.
